William Jefferson O'Kelly was born on 29 April 1763 in Chatham CO, NC.3 He died on 20 December 1820 in Chatham CO, NC.3 Webmaster comment: The date of William's birth seems to originate from the Pedigree of John Daniel McCurry. I wonder if this is factual or if it was calculated based upon the story that William was 12 years of age when Rev James O'Kelly was converted. I suspect it is likely that William's parents were married abt 1755 and William was born about 1757. I have wondered how William go have avoided the revolutionary draft but Rev James hired a substitute so maybe William did the same. William Jefferson O'Kelly and Mary Elizabeth Merritt were married on 27 March 1787 in Chatham CO, NC.3 They3 appeared in the census in 1820 in Chatham CO, NC.11 Mary Elizabeth Merritt was born in 1767 in Chatham CO, NC. She was buried in 1853. Webmaster comment: I have not found any birth or marriage records for William or Mary and I wonder if these date may have also been manufactured. William and Mary appear to have been very close to Rev James and Elizabeth yet in the children of William Jefferson there are no children named after William's parents and I find that very odd. I believe that Nancy may not have been the eldest, that there was a James and an Elizabeth who likely died and their memories are lost.
